My biggest artistic focus of the past few years has been honing my craft of songleading - the art of guiding a group of people who have never before met each other, let alone sang with each other, into an embodied, connective experience of singing together. No sheet music or musical experience necessary, everything is taught call-and-response with an invitational and anti-perfectionist spirit.

My songleading style is deeply adaptive to the group I am with - whether its 5 people in a park at sunrise, 25 gathered for a weekly sing, 50 people in deep candlelit ritual, or 100s of people marching in the streets, I carry a deep toolkit of practices and songs to meet any group where they are at, including:

• playful, connective musical games & ice-breakers

• somatic invitations for embodiment & grounding

• vocal improvisation, informed by Bobby McFerrin's "CircleSinging" 

• my own original music, and that of many others in the contemporary community singing movement

• invitations into reflection on song meaning, lineage, and context

• invitations into movement & dance

• "songcatching", aka the collective process of creating a song in the moment

• spontaneous, emergent musical ritual

• opportunities for deeper connection & community-building with other participants

Central to everything is cultivating a spirit of individual and collective agency, such that all participants can engage in ways that honor their own bodies, voices, and energy.

I am also comfortable with and delighted to facilitate intergenerational groups, and love finding ways to affirm and invite in the energy that young ones bring.
